Crathes castle is located near Banchory roughly 16 miles west of Aberdeen. The estate has about 530 acres of woodland and fields including around four acres of walled garden. The castle dates back to the 16th century. During some excavations roughly a decade ago several pits were discovered that are estimated to date back around 10,000 years. An outdoor adventure center called Go Ape is to be found set in the grounds of the castle.
