WPC: Dialogue – Sculpture – Two Sides

The following two images depict the detail to be seen in the faces of two characters of a single piece of sculpture. The facial expressions tell of such a dialogue between them. A further image below of a slightly wider shots helps to set the overall context of the work and the interplay between both parties.

The images were taken in the L-shaped square of Piazza della Signoria, Florence, Italy.

Does anybody know who these characters are and what is the story behind the piece?

This post is in response to the Dialogue Weekly Photo Challenge from the folks at The Daily Post.
