Dolphins – Why do we love them so? What is it about them that make them seem so friendly. Is it the smile of their mouthline, is it because they always seem so playful. I am sure many of us have spent many an hour sitting down watching episodes of Flipper. We all know that they are amongst the most intelligent animals on the planet. There have been many instances reported of dolphins saving people at sea, are they the lifeguards of the deep blue sea and as such have a kind and friendly demeanor.
Is it perhaps their proportions that make them so appealing, we see the golden ration / golden section appearing in so many places. You will see from page 9 of the following pdf document that “the eye, fins and tail all fall at golden sections of the length of the dolphin’s body”.

Love the slow-motion! Portrays the details of their massive beauty, strength, and grace. Such perfection of form. Beautiful!

Nice videos. The fish look beautiful as ever. Dolphins are one of nature’s true masterpieces, every which way you look at them!
They certainly are, its amazing how graceful they, so beautiful and streamlined.
They’re not fish, they’re mammals.
Ah yes, I stand corrected!
Dolphins are the best! We have LOTS of interaction with dolphins here: kayaking on the Indian River we see them all the time! They swim alongside (ours is a 2 person boat) and criss cross around…I think they consider it playing! Maggie and I keep talking about picking up a waterproof camera (even a cheap CVS one) to get pictures and reading your post now has me inspired to do it sooner than later. Here’s someone else’s youtube footage of the spot where we see them. They’re always around here:
Thanks for the visit and the link, gives a good sense of the area. Glad I inspired you to pick up a waterproof camera, I am sure you will have fun with the Dolphins.
One of the many reasons I love being a Florida girl, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer when I was a kid…
People find swimming with dolphins to be very therapeutic and they just seem to be happy all the time, it would be great to have a job working with them.
They have grace, strength, agility, playfulness and intelligence. How could we not be drawn to dolphins. Lovely photos!
Thanks for the visit and comment, they are certainly amazing creatures.
Since they are so intelligent it seems a crime to imprison them for our own pleasure. Better to see them in the wild as SmallHouseBigGarden does.
Being out in the oceans is certainly where they belong, free to go about and explore the mysteries of the deep.
Wonderful! Yes we do all love dolphins; they seem so attuned to our emotions.
Daniel, Great pics and post. Dolphins are exquisite, intelligent creatures. I had the opportunity to swim with them when I vacationed in Mexico. They are something to behold. What I remember the most was the trainer telling us that if a woman is pregnant and gets into the water with dolphins, the female dolphins will swim around her and try to nuzzle her belly because their sonar detects the fetus. Apparently, female dolphins love to be pregnant and are extremely maternal. This seriously, blew my mind. And it was awesome holding onto their fin and “swimming” with them. Highly recommend it.
I like all of the pictures above. Particularly blue is my favorite
